At St. Mark’s C of E Primary School we have a shared understanding that:
Spirituality is finding your own special moments that help you to feel connected to something bigger and wonderful in the world and beyond.
It isn’t something that looks the same for everyone. For some, it might be the beauty of nature, a moment of stillness, or the kindness of a friend. For others, it may be found in prayer, reflection, or creative expression. Spirituality is unique, personal, and deeply meaningful.
We use the Windows, Mirrors and Doors approach to help our children explore spirituality in ways that are open, reflective, and inspiring.
Windows

Looking Out and Wondering
Windows help us to look out at the world with curiosity and awe. They give us opportunities to notice beauty, explore big questions, and marvel at the world around us.
-
When we see a sunrise, listen to music, or hear someone’s story, it can open a “window” that inspires wonder and a sense of something beyond ourselves.
Mirrors

Looking In and Reflecting
Mirrors help us to look inward. They encourage us to pause, to think about who we are, what we believe, and how we feel.
-
Reflection helps children grow in self-awareness, appreciate their uniqueness, and recognise the values that are important to them.
Doors

Stepping Through and Living It Out
Doors invite us to step forward and act on what we’ve seen and thought about. They help us to make choices that reflect kindness, hope, and responsibility.
-
This might mean helping a friend, showing gratitude, or making a difference in the community. Spirituality becomes real when it shapes the way we live.
Through windows, mirrors and doors, we want every child to:
-
Experience moments of awe and wonder.
-
Discover their own sense of identity and purpose.
-
Develop the courage to live out their values in positive ways.
Spirituality is not about giving one answer, but about encouraging children to explore their own journey, to ask deep questions, and to notice the “something bigger and wonderful” in life.
